”Last week (September 15 -17, 2019) was all about IMEX Las Vegas, one of the largest trade fairs in the world for the Meeting & Event industry.

First of all: Las Vegas, a completely different world with a quirky culture and incredibly vibrant atmosphere. You will also notice that it is far away after being on the plane for 14 hours (!) However, despite the jet lag, I couldn't resist making my way to 'the Strip', the beating heart of the hotel and gambling industry. A sweltering walk later I end up in the very efficient air conditioning, where I now imagine myself in Venice. The complete replica of Venice, including canals and gondolas, architecture and ice cream stands, was by far the most bizarre structure in Vegas.

Time for EduMonday, the first day IMEX with plenty of training, workshops and presentations, all about organizing MICE and managing the teams for this. After a full deep-dive into my 'type of leadership under pressure' with a case of a kidnapping in Colombia in 1988 as starting point, I enjoyed an enlightening presentation by Mark Cooper (IACC) about the latest trends, developments and forecast of the international Meeting industry. In particular, the shift we are experiencing towards digitization and sustainability continues to strengthen, and requires major steps in innovation and developments in the near future.

De three days after were fully booked with appointments with international hotel chains, beautiful event locations and the most special meeting concepts. The National Gallery London, Kempinski Hotels, Disney Hotels & Resorts, Scandic Hotels Group, Accor APAC, among others, have been reviewed. The outcome of 28 (!) 30-minute meetings is the official start of onemeeting.com International, with now spacious 1.000 locations in the pipeline.
